Highlights

The highlight of the first day was undoubtedly the Social Enterprise Trade Fair in the square outside the conference centre. I was quite disappointed that I hadn't gone there first, but I didn't realise that it was closing before the main conference and wouldn't be there on the second day.

Inside the conference, the biggest thing on day one was probably conservative leader David Cameron's speech Social enterprise can help training schemes change with the times also described as "Bring Back The Job Clubs" at the Withington Cooperative Party blog and Conservative Leader Speaks. It got a passing mention at total coverage.

Day two opened with Liam Byrne: Social enterprises will be at the heart of the new economy - it doesn't seem to have got as much coverage as David Cameron, but I think a Labour minister delivering a fairly capitalist-centric speech is almost as notable as a Conservative leader's vague comments about social enterprise.

I spent the rest of day two at an interesting seminar on Community Shares and the launch of Cooperatives-WM and then got chatting to some people, so I missed the PM seminars. The PM conference plenaries were rather disappointing and didn't seem to contain much about cooperatives.

There are other general reports at at The School for Social Entrepreneurs: Voice 09: investment, interest and igloos,Furniture Reuse Network and Social Enterprise Mag.
